A Fine unmarked copy with silver title and decoration on black cloth boards with red slipcase which has a little fading. 248 pages. Introduction by Kenneth Hopkins. Illustrated with woodcuts by Peter Pendrey. That this narrative is fiction is the most remarkable thing about it, as there is no more vivid account of an historical event in the language. Although it was taken as an accurate and authentic account (Defoe was only a young child in 1665 and the journal first appeared in 1722), he does go to original sources.

Felix Tournachon, better known as Nadar, was a caricaturist,journalist, balloonist and the supreme photographer of his age. The Goncourt journals were the most celebrated of French journals of the time by the two brothers who collaborated as novelists. These extracts cover 1851 - 1896.

A VG+ unmarked copy which has just a touch of rubbing to title block in VG slipcase which has some light fading. Bound in Scholco Coloretta cloth by the Pitman Press with paper label of church window to front. Edited with an introduction and notes by David Hey with illustrations by Tim Stephens. First published in 1834,a century after his death, the author's book is the most remarkable local history ever written and unique in historical literature. In 1700 when he began his book Gough was a 66 year old widower and able to draw on a fund of memories. He lived in his family's ancient tenement at Newton on the Hill in the Shropshire parish of Myddle, describing himself as a yeoman. The original Olde English spelling has been retained in this edition.
