A delightful early pocket book edition (5 5/8 x 3 3/4 inches) of the Lays plus Miscellaneous poems, preface and brief introductions to each Lay. Ornate gilt decoration and title on half blue cloth with paper half boards decorated with very small brown flowers with flecks of gilt on ivory. Gilt still very bright, slight wear to head and tail of spine and slight wear to extremities. Light foxing to contents with minor contemporary inscription " Amico Meo Caro G.S.P." to ffep else clean. Some pages unopened. Charming miniature illustrations by Sir George Scharf (1820-1895) the British illustrator and the first secretary of the National Portrait Gallery from 1857.
