London Thomas Nelson 1904 Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket
Gilt title and blue and gilt floral decoration to spine with gilt title and blue, black and yellow pictorial to fron on brown cloth boards. Boards are very clean and unmarked with just the smallest touch of wear to one lower corner tip. Internally there is a copperplate ink prize award inscription and date March 31st/11 to front endpaper, a little light foxing to the first and last few pages,and sporadically to a few other pages else very clean, tight and unmarked. All edges gilt. viii + 301 pages. Frontispiece, tissue guarded, and 3 other illustrations (bound in a different page from the index). Not dated but is the same as Nelson's 1886 edition but this is probably the 1904 edition. A most well kept copy. From the Preface ' The object which I have had before me in writing the following tale, has been to show the distinction between the intellectual and the spiritual, and the insufficiency of mental powers, even though they be of a high order, either to render their possessor wise unto salvation, or to make him a fit instrument to accomplish a lofty mission amongst men.'

Gilt titles with black and embossed floral decoration and ruling on blue cloth boards. Boards have some minor marks and a little wear to spine head, tail and sides. Internally there is a decorative prize bookplate dated Xmas 1898 to front pastedown else clean, tight and unmarked. Printed on better quality paper than is usual. 12 stories. 7 illustrations by W. Small. An attractive and morally uplifting book by the popular writer of children's stories and a missionary (1821-1893) which was first published in 1864.
