The Australian author and screenwriter (1907-1972), was noted for his film work, particularly 'Vertigo' . This story, which was made into a film starring John Mills, Phyllis Calvert and Herbert Lom, recounts the strange history of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Denning and their daughter Liz, from the day when Victor Maddos entered their lives. Denning had everything that money could buy, but he quite suddenly became unduly depressed, eventually coming near to suicide. This event jerked him back to reality, and he revealed to his wife that when visiting Maddos to question his association with Liz, he had accidentally killed him in a quarrel. Denning had then quickly formed and executed a plan to divert any suspicion from himself - only to find that his action had become a deadly menace to his own safety. Shortly afterwards, Chick Eddowes, a friend of the Dennings, arrived from America. He was a patents lawyer, but keenly desirous of gaining a District Attorney's badge for murder investigation. He hit upon the Maddos case, and was led to investigate further, with terrifying consequences for the Dennings. SCARCE WITH JACKET
