A Fine unmarked copy with near Fine dustjacket which has a light crease to top edge and is not price clipped. xii + 274 pages. Londonderry Family Tree. 51 illustrations. The daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry, Annabel had a privileged upbringing, with parents who doted on their children, and idyllic years spent at the family homes, Mount Stewart and Wynyard. But her mother died tragically from cancer when Annabel was only 17, and Annabel, her sister and brother were left to cope with a father whose drinking and increasingly erratic behavious was becoming a burden on the whole family. Married at 19 to Mark Birley, Annabel's life became a whirlwind of glamorous parties, exotic holidays, much revolved around Annabel's - the Berkeley Square club that Mark Birley had founded in her name. Anabel and Mark had three children - Rupert, Robin and India Jane, however, in 1964, Annabel fell in love with, and later married, the charismatic entrepreneur, James Goldsmith. She had three more children - Jemima, Zac and Ben. Despite bearing the pressures of being one of three women in her husband's life, Annabel settled down to a happy family life at their home on the edge of Richmond Park. But tragedy was never far away: Rupert, her eldest son, died in an accident in West Africa in 1986 and in 1997, James Goldsmith died from cancer, after masterminding the Referendum Party. **** NOT EX LIB ****
