A Very Good+ unmarked copy which has a smalll manufacturing defect to spine side with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. The author (1918-1989) sadly died before this novel was published. It is the story of Kate Venables, stranded with two young sons in an idyllic Devonshire village, determined to stay remote from its apparently small minded occupations. Her husband is being detained on a faraway island by a mysterious Danish girl, captured or captivated? Kate cannot know. Irresistible individuals and bizarre events gradually lure her from her self imposed isolation until she is involved in every aspect of village life, where all is not as serene as first impressions suggest, as there is the lonely, the eccentric, the charmer, the crook and the plain dotty, humanity in all its guises is found in this intriguing tale of rural England.
