By basing his account on letters, decrees, edicts, sermons, pamphlets, official documents of all kinds, he presents the king as he appeared to his ministers, diplomats, soldiers, bureaucrats and family. Professor Wolf has given more attention to the problems of war and politics and shows Louis as soldier-administrator.
