1 Bailey, Maurice and Maralyn 117 Days Adrift
Hampshire Nautical 1973 0245522603 / 9780245522604 First Hard Near Fine Near Fine Milne, Peter A.G.
A near Fine unmarked copy which has a little light foxing to top edge with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. Coloured map endpapers. Illustrated. Foreword by Sir Peter Scott. No one is recorded as having survived adrift as did Maralyn and Maurice Bailey after the dramatic sinking of their yacht Auralyn. They spent 118 1/3 days in their small liferaft and rubber dinghy, and for most of this time were utterly dependent on the resources provided by the ocean and the sky. The area of the sinking near the Galapagos Islands in the Eastern Pacific, was naturally full of fish and bird life, but to devise ways of catching these, and of living and eating in such an environment required outstanding qualities of ingenuity and determination. They were finally rescued by Korean fishermen at a time when they had virtually resigned themselves to being part of the ocean for ever.
