Gilt title on light brown cloth boards with decorative paper sides. Fore and lower edges uncut. Top edge gilt. Age darkening to endpapers else very clean, tight and unmarked. Uniform with XVIII Century French Romances edited by Vyvyan Holland. Book Plate of Ralph Dickinson to front pastedown. Comprises Introduction; Spleen; The Soldier Lovers; Alonzo; The Hermit; A Spanish Story. The stories first appeared, posthumously, in 1806 in the Melanges litteraires et historiques, which formed the fourth and last work of the Baron de Besenval's works.
