Silver title on blue boards which are clean unmarked with no wear or damage. Internally clean and unmarked apart from some very small marks to top edge. A Very Good + copy. Coloured pictorial dutjacket is also clean and unmarked and protected by a plastic cover and is complete VG+. Veronica Black is the pseudonym of Maureen Peters. The title is the words printed on a slip of paper in an old cookery book which historical researcher Cordelia James traces to a child in a pink dress who makes brief appearances in the vicinity of The Cedars where she has rented a room. There are other clues - the records of a mid 19th century case of a vanished governess and child. Parallels emerge as the house cleaner and her daughter go missing, as an old tale of lust and murder is replayed in a house where the restless ghost of Polly Winter seeks justice. *** A fairly SCARCE first edition ***
