Helen Violet Bonham Carter, Baroness Asquith of Yarnbury (1887-1969), was a British politician and the daughter of Liberal Prime Minister H. H. Asquith by his first wife, Helen Kesall Asquith. Through these remarkable diaries and letters, published for the first time, the decade befor the First World War, is seen from a unique ringside seat, social as well as political. The volume opens with the first entry in her diary, begun in Paris when she was 17, and she writes of being presentd at Court, of grand dances, of political intrigue, of tragedy - the death of one of her closest friends, Archie Gordon, son of the Earl of Aberdeen in a motoring accident.
