Gilt titles and decoration on red cloth boards which have a little wear to spine head and tail and corner tips. Internally there is age darkening to endpapers, sporadic light foxing and the occasional small mark but generally a clean, tight copy of this undated Victorian edition of Bunyan's classic work. Top edge gilt. Fore edge uncut. 320 pages. 31 illustrations from original drawings by Harold Copping. In 1826 the Religious Tract Society issued an edition of the Pilgrim's Progress in which special attention was paid to revision of the text, and great pains were taken to restore this as nearly as possible to the text which had received Bunyan's own latest corrections. It is well known that in the second and third editions Bunyan made large additions to the allegory and many important corrections. In all, during Bunyan's life-time, eleven editions of the great book were published, the last appearing in 1688, the year of his death.
