1 Fitzgerald, Edward (Rendered into English Verse by) Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
London Collins 1969 Khorasan Hard Very Good+ Very Good Sherriffs, Robert Stewart
Gilt titles and decoration on black background on red cloth boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there are a few spots of light foxing to endpapers else very clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good+ copy. Dustjacket has a little wear to spine head and some foxing to inner flaps. The Khorasan Edition. Introduction by Laurence Housman. Essay on Fitzgerald by G.F. Maine. There are many editions of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, some are prose translations which faithfully mirror the thought and imagery of the original, others are in verse of varying degrees of excellence, but none has won such universal favour as the best loved of all renderings by Edward Fitzgerald (1809-1883). This book contains the First, Second, and Fifth Editions in full, together with the textual variants in the Third and Fourth Editions, thus providing the reader with a complete rendition of Fitzgerald's work on the Rubaiyat over a period of over 25 years. Includes Fitzgerald's essay on Omar and the Notes to the Second Edition, which contains the largest number of quatrains (110) and a glossary. The 12 coloured illustrations by Robert Stewart Sherriffs were specially drawn for this edition.
