1 Hunt, Norman C. Sir Robert Walpole, Samuel Holden, and the Dissenting Deputies
London Oxford University Press 1957 First Edition Soft Cover Very Good No Jacket
A near Fine clean, tight and unmarked copy. The eleventh lecture of the Friends of Dr. Williams's Library. 31 pages. The ostensible purpose which brought the Presbyterians, Independents, and Baptists together in the Dissenting Deputies' Committee in 1732 was to promote the repeal of the Test and Corporation Acts, under Samuel Holden's chairmanship. But the Dissenting Deputies were not happy with Holden's cautious leadership, some believing Walpole had planted him there. Walpole needed all his skill and dexterity if he were to save himself and his Government following the strong feeling in the country.
