A humorous novel of King Fadl who wants part of the neighbouring kingdom of Zibda, which intrudes into his kingdom. He telephones Sultan Nabil of Zibda to make him an offer he can't refuse but GCHQ are listening in and a disgraced MI42 agent, Charlie Hammond, is sent to gather information. Hammond meets an English teacher, Armitage, there and when the Ministry for the Suppression of Vice and the Encouragement of Virtue orders the circumcision of all expatriates, Hammond and Armitages's troubles are just beginning, then they are caught in flagrante by Abdul Wahhab Higgins, Jesuit turned Muslim zealot, can they escape the lash?
