Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1927 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Fair

The story of Fanny Burney, the demure 18th century 'Miss' whose first novel kept Burke from his bed and Sir Joshua Reynolds from the dinner table takes us into the same society that still lives in the pages of Boswell. In England she moved among all the great figures of the age, George III, Horace Walpole, Johnson, Reynolds, Burke, Sheridan; and in France, as the wife of General d'Arblay, she shared the fortunes of the French Revolution. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to a fascinating, but lengthy, picture of life in the 18th century. **** NOT EX LIB ****
