Dustjacket has just a touch of light wear to top edge. A large format volume of 913 pages. Map endpapers. The third volume of this magnum opus and most authoritative work of reference has been planned to take account of the great advances that have been made in ornithological knowledge since the publication of the 'Handbook of British Birds (1938-41)', which for many years provided the basis on which ornithological research was built. Ornithologists now work on a wider geographical area and this handbook covers the whole of the Western Palearctic, which includes all Europe together with the Middle East to Turkey, Iraq, and Jordan, and South Africa south to about 19 degrees north. This volume contains descriptions of 112 species. Specially commissioned colour plates, showing the full range of normal plumage together with more distant flight views. The artists in this volume are Norman Arlott, Dr. P.J.K. Burton, N.W. Cusa, Robert Gillmor, D.I.M. Wallace. There are also colour plates of eggs, black and white illustrations, and many text figures and glossaries of scientific terms and an index. ***** PLEASE NOTE: A LARGE HEAVY VOLUME OF 2.6 KILO UNPACKED WEIGHT WHICH WILL REQUIRE EXTRA SHIPPING COST *****
