Gilt and black title to spine on light grey cloth boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear with a small line of fading to top. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked. 224 pages. Portrait frontispiece and 7 othe illustrations. Dustwrapper is chipped with taped repairs. Loose slip by publisher stating that the volume is sent out for review. The fifth Duc de Richelieu, who succeeded Taleyrand as Prime minister of France after the fall of Napoleon had an unusual and interesting career. Like many young nobles of his generation, he commenced his active military career in the service of Russia and later, when the French Revolution debarred him from continuing to serve his own king, he returned to Russia to serve first Catherine the Great and then Tsar Alexander I, his personal friend. **** NOT EX LIB ****
