1 Tylden-Wright, David Anatole France
London Collins 1967 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good
A Fine unmarked copy with VG dustjacket which has a very small repaired closed tear and is not price clipped. 344 pages. 7 illustrations and pictorial endpapers. Anatole France - born François-Anatole Thibault (1844-1924), was the son of a bookseller on the left bank, and the Paris he knew was the Paris of Monet and Renoir, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. Their genius has created a vision of the city, animated, stylish, intelligent, that forever expresses the Parisian spirit. Of that spirit Anatole France was almost the personification - his curiosity, his intellectual energy, his zest for life are reflected in the astonishing range of his literary achievement. Apart from his novels, he was one of the greatest literary journalists and critics in the history of France. He was the friend or acquaintance of almost every literary figure from the Goncourts, to the poets such as Verlaine and Leconte de Lisle, to Zola and Proust; he was in Paris during the siege and under the rule of the Commune; he survived to witness the suffering of the Great War, and the Dreyfus case involved him in politics. **** NOT EX LIB ****
