Black title and white and brown floral motif to spine with white and black title and white floral motif to front and a pictorial of Grenfell on brown cloth boards. Boards are clean and bright with no wear and with just a couple of small minor marks. Internally there is a contemporay neat inscription to front endpaper and date of 1917, age fading of page edges else clean, tight and unmarked. Second edition not dated but first published in 1910. Portrait frontispiece, map of the Congo and 11 photographic illustrations. George Grenfell (1849-1906) was a Baptist minister who spent most of his life in Africa and whose young wife died shortly after arriving in the Cameroons.
