Hobson, Dominic The Pride of Lucifer - The Unauthorised Biography of a Merchant Bank London Hamish Hamilton 1990 0241127793 / 9780241127797 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good A Fine uninscribed copy with near Fine complete dustjacket which has two small biro marks to inner flap. The author previously worked for Morgan Grenfell, the merchant bank and details it's downfall. Floated on the London Stock Exchange in June 1986 and oversubscribed fivefold, having doubled in size with profits quadrupled in the previous five years, by December of 1986 it had fallen like Lucifer. Sackings were followed by resignations, the man hired to mastermind it's recovery had been found guilty of insider dealings at the Old Bailey and within two years Morgan Grenfell Securities had been shut down. The blame lay in a cabal of professional men who took charge of an old and revered merchant bank and used it's reputation to enrich themselves and to breach the trust of past and future generations of Morgan bankers. 35 photographs.
