Monteux, Doris It's All In The Music - The Life and Work of Pierre Monteux London William Kimber 1966 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Gold title on brown boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear and with gentle bumping to corner tips. Internally there is light foxing to top edge else clean, tight and unmarked. Dustjacket has a little wear to top and lower edges and is not price clipped. In 1960 at the age of 85 Pierre Monteux was appointed Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, and he was delighted that the agreement was for 25 years with an option to renew for a similar period, but his death occurred in 1964. It's All in the Music, the title coming from his favourite piece of advice to students, is not only a biography of a great conductor by his wife, for it was written during the years 1962-1964 and frequently his own voice is added to the narrative and he gives his own views of, and reactions to, famous or sometimes little known events. Thus it is a unique chronicle reflecting the musical life and achievements of this century. It was Monteux who, in 1913, conducted the sensational first performance of Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring' and who conducted the anniversary performance 50 years later. Doris Monteux vividly recreates the life of the maestro from his beginnings in Paris when, as a youth, he played with such masters as Grieg and Saint Saens. Portrait frontispiece. Price:
