1 Essex, Rosamund Woman in a Man's World
London Sheldon Press 1977 0859691292 / 9780859691291 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good
A Fine unmarked copy with VG+ complete dustjacket which has some light fading to spine. When the author was at school she was told that, because of the decimation of the First World War, her chances of marriage was 1 in 10 and so she buckled down to make an independent life of her own. She went on to Oxford, became a political secretary, journalist and editor of a Fleet Street newspaper and although she never married it did not stop her from adopting a son. A rich autobiography with schooldays with Dilys Powell, Edward Heath as a journalistic colleague and her friendship with many churchmen, including Geoffrey Fisher of Canterbury, William Temple and Michael Ramsey. Still full of energy when she retired at 60 she started a new career with Christian Aid, travelling, speaking and preaching for the deprived and underprivileged. 9 illustrations.
