3 Underhill, Evelyn The Fruits of the Spirit
London Longmans, Green 1942 First Edition Soft Cover Very Good No Jacket
Card covers have age darkening but no wear. Internally clean, tight and unmarked. vii + 72 pages. The book was published poshumously as Evelyn Underhill died in June 1941. There is an introductory note by her husband, Hubert Stuart Moore. The book is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a series of informal addresses given in the chapel of the House of Retreat, Pleshey in 1936; and are intended rather to stimulate meditation than to give information. The second part is devoted to letters written by Underhill to members of the Prayer Group, which she founded early in 1939. On the outbreak of war its members were scattered to various parts of the country and these letters were a splendid means of keeping the Group alive and of providing the spiritual food which was more than ever needed in time of war.
