'If you come to America' Roger Peterson suggested to fellow naturalist James Fisher 'I will meet you in Newfoundland and conduct you around the continent. We will go from Newfoundland to Alaska by way of Mexico and you will see a more complete cross section of Wild America than any other Englishman.' When Fisher returned to England he had seen no fewer than 601 species of birds, 536 of them in the area covered by the American Ornithologists Union, previously nobody had seen more than 497 species in this area in a whole year. At the end of the tour, which embraced the greatest aggregation of large mammals of one species in the world, and the biggest and oldest of living things in the world, Fisher concluded that Americans show too little of their earthly paradise. Illustrated throughout by Peterson. PLEASE NOTE: A HEAVY VOLUME OF 0.83 KILO UNPACKED WEIGHT WHICH MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST **** NOT EX LIB ****
