The distinguished and influential conductor reflects on a life spent in an intense and fruitful engagement with music, his thoughts on composers, conductors, singers and instrumentalists. Born in 1912 in Budapest, Solti worked with Bartok and Kodaly, became assistant to Toscanini and Bruno Walter, Director of Music at the Munich State Opera, Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera and spent 10 turbulent years at the Royal Opera House in London. 44 photographs and appendix of live performances he has conducted. Sir Georg died in the South of France on th September 1997 only hours before completing the final corrections to this book.
