1 Gough, Richard The History of Myddle
London Folio Society 1983 Hard VG+ VG Stephens, Tim
A VG+ unmarked copy which has just a touch of rubbing to title block in VG slipcase which has some light fading. Bound in Scholco Coloretta cloth by the Pitman Press with paper label of church window to front. Edited with an introduction and notes by David Hey with illustrations by Tim Stephens. First published in 1834,a century after his death, the author's book is the most remarkable local history ever written and unique in historical literature. In 1700 when he began his book Gough was a 66 year old widower and able to draw on a fund of memories. He lived in his family's ancient tenement at Newton on the Hill in the Shropshire parish of Myddle, describing himself as a yeoman.
