Gold title and chinese characters on red cloth boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there are small initials and date to front pastedown and age toning to page edges else very clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good+ copy. Dustjacket has wear to edges, two closed tears and a piece missing to top front. A large format volume of 160 pages. 39 pages of colour and 83 pages of black and white photographs by Gun Kessle. Jan Myrdal and his wife, Gun Kessle, a noted artist and photographer, went to China to write their first book, Report from a Chinese Village, and in doing this they spent nine months travelling throughout China. They were allowed to go anywhere in the country, visiting even the usually forbidden border areas in Mongolia and near Burma. The aim of the book is to show what life is really like in China; to show through the lives of the common people what Chinese Communism is all about. The three inland journeys made were - Inner Mongolia; From Loyang to Yenan, Liu Ling Village in North Shensi; Yunnan and the Burma Road.
