1 Hadfield, John A Book of Britain - An Anthology in Words and Pictures
London Hulton Press 1959 Hard Cover Near Fine Near Fine
A near Fine clean, tight and unmarked copy with near Fine dustjacket which is price clipped. Third impression (first was1956). 255 pages. Pictorial endpapers. Full page plate illustrations throughout. Let no one assume from the title that it is yet 'another of the same' anthology of poetry - readers will look in vain for Wordsworth's daffodils, views of Windsor Castle, or solemn appraisals of the British way of life - this is a highly personal book. It is a long time since an anthology on a popular subject brought together so much fresh and delightfully unusual material. From the 17th century mystical poet Quarles (on bowls) to Dylan Thomas (on Bank Holidays). The choice of illustrations range from 15th century woodcarving to L.S. Lowry, and also show the same disregard for conventional tastes. 'It is superbly good' said John Betjeman. A pure delight!

2 Hadfield, John (edited by) Cowardly Custard - The World of Noel Coward - Based on the Mermaid Theatre Entertainment Devised By Gerald Frow, Alan Strachan and Wendy Toye
London Heinemann 1973 0434310905 / 9780434310906 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Fine
A Fine unmarked copy with Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. A large format volume of 144 pages. 140 illustrations. When Sir Noel Coward died in March 1973 his work was playing to crowded houses in two London theatres and another in New York. The tributes paid to him after his death testified not only to his pre-eminence in the theatre of his time but also to the continuing appeal of his songs and lyrics to old and young alike. This appeal has benn delightfully demonstrated by the Mermaid Theatre entertainment, Cowardly Custard, which brought together much of the best - and some of the less familiar - of Sir Noel's lyrics and poems, with snatches of dialogue from the plays and passages of autobiography. This illustrated edition of Cowardly Custrad is as distinctive and refreshing as the stage show. Sir Noel himself wrote to the editor of the book a few days before his died: 'Your approach is so original and enjoyable that I feel sure the result will be a lovely book quite unlike any other - certainly unlike any other about my work.' PLEASE NOTE: A LARGE HEAVY VOLUME OF 0.835 KILO UNPACKED WEIGHT WHICH MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST
