Gilt title to spine with blind embossed title to front on brown cloth boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there is the Armorial Book Plate of Peregrine Cory with the Latin motto 'Virtus Semper Viridis' (virtue is always flourishing) to front pastedown, foxing to closed edges, endpapers and sporadically to page edges, else a clean tight copy. 286 pages. 16 illustrations. The author (1864-1926) was the father of the poet Stephen Spender. In this book he contends that the history of Mansions is the history of Men. He reviews 16 great mansions and the illustrious people associated with them
