An historical fiction which chronicles the friendship between Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne, based on a meeting in 1850 in Massachusetts where they were neighbours for a year. The book develops the two main characters through the history of their domestic lives and the last scenes are played out on the sands at Southport and at Liverpool pierhead.
