Szabo, Thomas Boy on the Rooftop London Heinemann 1958 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Gold title on red boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked with a little light foxing to closed edges. A Very Good+ copy. Dustjacket is not price clipped and is also VG+. Translated by David Hughes. Photograph frontispiece of back of author, his face dare not be shown, nor his true name revealed. The Hungarian author was aged 15 when he was firing a machine-gun from the rooftops, and using a dead friend as shield. When the first combatants were formed, he was put in charge of a band of 30 or so boys of his own age who were fighting with the now celebrated Corvin Battalion. His account does not pretend to be a full description of the Battle of Budapest in 1956, he records only what he saw and did, the agony of losing friends, his arrest by the Russians, his escape from a deportation train and his flight across the Austrian frontier. **** NOT EX LIB **** Price:
