1 Szulc, Tad The Bombs of Palomares
London Victor Gollancz 1967 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
A near Fine unmarked copy with complete dustjacket which has a small removal to front and is very clean and unmarked. Map endpapers. The author, a newspaper correspondent, has written a most carefully documented account of the dramatic events in January 1966, when an accident occurred over the Spanish coast and a jet bomber of the American Strategic Air Command collided with it's refuelling tanker and it's four hydrogen bombs fell. Although the bombs were not 'armed', the uranium and plutonium with which they were filled presented a deadly threat to life. He recounts the dramatic recovery of the bombs, two of which had split, with plutonium having leaked, the clean up operation with 1,750 tons of contaminated soil being removed and the rescue of the airmen. New and secret underwater craft were used and there were weeks of near disaster before final success.

2 Szulc, Tad The Winds of Revolution - Latin America Today - And Tomorrow
London Thames and Hudson 1964 First Edition Cloth Very Good  Good
First UK edition. White title on beige cloth boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there is light foxing to endpapers and age darkening to page edges else clean, tight and unmarked. Dustjacket is complete with some light wear and marks to back G+. In this incisive study, the author, who was chief South American correspondent for the New York Times from 1956 to 1961 and accompanied Vice-President Nixon on his trip to South America in 1958, probes the source of instability in 20 Latin American countries, why their problems paradoxically stem from their wealth and how, despite spectacular increases in national income, they have failed to improve the living standards of the masses.
