Silver title on blue cloth boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there is a small neat inscription to front pastedown else very clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good+ copy. Dustjacket is also VG+ and has just a little wear to lower front edge and is complete. William Temple (1881-1944) was the 96th Archbishop of Canterbury, the first Primate of All England to be cremated. In this volume Canon Baker has brought together 22 of Temple's essays and addresses covering the whole span of his adult life, and illustrating both the catholicity of his interests and the depth of his faith. A Fine unmarked copy with gilt title on blue cloth boards. Dustjacket is VG+. Edited by F.S. Temple. This selection from William Temple's correspondence as Archbishop of Canterbury begins with his move from York to Canterbury in the spring of 1942 and ends with a letter written two days before his death on 26th October 1944. During this period he became one of the most notable archiepiscopates the Church of England had known, and under war conditions, living in makeshift quarters in the bombed Lambeth Palace, Temple gave himself unsparingly to the leadership of the Church, corresponding with Cabinet Ministers and lay people. The editor is the Archbishop's nephew and has had experience of Lambeth Palace, and has been able to draw on family and official sources.150 letters and 5 illustrations.
