A Fine unmarked copy with Fine slipcase. Bound in vegetable parchment printed with an 18th century engraving by Ganiere of the Pope condemning Jansenism. Translated and edited by Brian Masters. 17 illustrations. The murder of Jean Calas in 1762, sanctioned by the sword of justice,caused much uproar between Protestants and Catholics. He was broken on the wheel in Toulouse.

Translated by H. I. Woolf with an introduction and notes. Second impression. A nice small volume in the Broadway Translations series of books for the most part difficult to obtain. Red covers with cream spine gilt title on red cloth boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally marble pattern end papers and also clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good + copy. Not dated but probably 1950's.
