Internally clean and unmarked with foxing to closed edges. Dustjacket is complete with a little chipping and some foxing to back. Map of Holland of 1757 to endpapers. 5 illustrations. Boswell faithfully kept his journal during his stay in Holland but most was lost during his lifetime. Fortunately, the loss was not irreparable, for in this period he carried on an extensive correspondence with his friends and addressed to himself each morning a memorandum which included the actions of the day before. Professor Pottle has arranged the volume in chronological order based on the treasure trove of the Boswell Papers.
