Translated by Mrs.Rodolph Stawell. Not dated but probably 1930's. Gilt title on red cloth boards which have some light marks and slight fading to spine. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked. A Good+ copy. Frontispiece picture of bust of Dr. Guillotin by Henri Bouillon. A comprehensive work on the administration of justice under the old regime including the "Rifleurs", Provincial executioners during the Terror, The Sansons (1685-1847) and the Guillotine itself including sites, cemeteries of the victims, the prejudice of the public.
